The trade war can have a ripple effect across SEA, with yuan depreciation being the main channel.

Vietnam is Southeast Asia’s most open economy on some measures, with imports accounting for almost 100 percent of GDP. As a result, it’s more vulnerable to price pressures. A 1 percentage point fall in the dong could lead to a 0.25 percentage point increase in headline inflation, HSBC Holdings Plc estimates.

If the market pressure persists, Vietnam will be forced into grudging rate increases, like its Southeast Asian peers Indonesia and the Philippines.

I think these diagrams move me in the right direction. The idea is to transform a "limit" situation into a "colimit" situation.

upd. T needs to be a separate category with functors going into it from the SH category.

H <- R - > S

f: S -> p
g:H -> u

h: S->H
j: H ->S

S -> X
R -> X

Seoul is believed to have agreed to conditions known as the "three No's" - no deployment of additional Thaad batteries, no joining a US-led missile defence network and no trilateral security alliance with US and Japan - as the price to improve ties. The reported concessions drew criticism that South Korea had compromised too much and should stop kowtowing to China.

After the initial deployment of Thaad, China imposed an informal ban on tourism to South Korea and limited operations of certain Korean companies working in China. The tourism boycott resulted in $9B loss. Xi is now calling the shots in the region.

Today I Learned that Portuguese explorers and traders at the turn of the 15th century succeeded because the traditional Muslim trade networks in the region were devastated by the plague. The disease created an empty space that the Portuguese figured out how to "mine" for spices.

Money and commerce were regarded by the ancients as a potential political threat. By their business contacts, traders and merchants are exposed to new customs, thoughts and values that might challenge the existing order. ibid 51.

- important observation. merchants make control, on the system level, difficult by increasing the number of goods and services that are being traded, expanding the use of money, both domestic and foreign coin, exploiting hole in law and customs, etc.
