If I were a 30th century historian making a case for the importance of the 1900-2100 period in human history, I'd say that we abandoned 4,000-year practices of agricultural societies, solved overcrowding problems (infection, pollution, congestion, crime) and shifted to high-density lifestyle. The upheaval resulted in social unrest, global wars, serious ecological damage, massive population dislocations, but reached a new equilibrium in the end.
