The meaning of life

timeletsOn the walk this afternoon I was listening to a lecture about the intellectual impact of existentialism in the US. One idea in particular struck me as something worth pondering further: Physical existence by itself is meaningless; we (as a community and/or society) have to create a meaning by ourselves. You have to choose the paths that you take and the meanings to attach to them. The meaning of one's life is only knowable at his/her death. The meaning will be revealed by stories that others tell upon the person's death.
