Imagine, a policeman [allegedly] commits a crime on the job. If the case goes to a jury trial, how many cops will be on the jury? Most likely, none, because either criminal prosecutors or civil lawyers will disqualify cops during the jury selection process.

Now imagine, a member of the military [allegedly] commits a crime on the job. If the case goes to a military jury trial, how many military members will be on the jury? All of them.

The ancient Greek schools give us more examples of it than we find in our syncretistic age, in which a certain shallow and dishonest system of compromise of contradictory principles is devised, because it commends itself better to a public which is content to know something of everything and nothing thoroughly, so as to please every party.”

--- Emmanuel Kant, “The Critique of Practical Reason.”
