It looks like voters are looking for leaders that can provide a difference in kind, instead of difference in degree. Where can they easily find such leaders? In contrast with real life, which is mostly about everyday drudgery, the entertainment industry is all about surprises, unpredictability and divergent story lines. In short, it's about differences in kind. Therefore, voters associate successful entertainers like Trump and Zelensky with real-life difference-makers who could provide the much needed difference of kind.
