Technical artifacts, then, are made to serve some purpose... Whether end product or component, an artifact is ‘for something’, and what it is for is called the artifact’s function.

I'm confused. Does the word "function" here represent a function as an arrow in CT, or is it just another word for "purpose" and it stands for something else? For example, a shoe has the purpose to protect my foot, etc. Therefore, can I say that it maps a bare foot to a protected foot?

shoe: bare foot -> equipped foot
