The good news is that, given the typical scale of historical Russian fuckups, the current situation is rather mild. Russia is no longer ruled by a maniac like Stalin, an idiot like Khruschev, an imbecile like Brezhnev, or a drunk like Yeltsin. Lucky for us, Putin's global ambitions are kept in check by his own incompetence.
