Former President Donald Trump easily won the 2024 GOP presidential nomination straw poll at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) gathering this weekend in Florida. Trump, who’s repeatedly flirted with making another presidential run in 2024 to try and return to the White House, captured 59% of ballots cast in the anonymous online straw poll, according to results announced by CPAC on Sunday afternoon. The former president, who remains the most popular and influential politician in the Republican Party as he continues to play a kingmaker's role in GOP primaries, won 55% support a year ago in the CPAC Orlando straw poll. <…> Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis came in a distant second in the new survey, at 28%, up from his 21% standing in both CPAC straw polls from last year. No one else among the 19 names listed on the ballot cracked 2%. https://www.foxnews.com/politics/trump-wins-cpac-2024-gop-presidential-nomination-straw-poll-with-desantis-second
It is both amusing and terrifying to watch “mini-Trump” DeSantis (B.A. magna cum laude in history from Yale, J.D. cum laude from Harvard Law School) desperately pretending to be dumb.
DeSantis became Trump's man, running as a "Pitbull Trump Defender." One campaign ad, narrated by his wife, Casey DeSantis, presented their home as an altar of Trump worship, complete with their infant lying in a crib, dressed in a MAGA shirt, with a MAGA blanket. Four years later, DeSantis's new identity has now anchored so completely that he routinely mimics the former President's body language, from his hand gestures (including the classics: "accordion hands" and the "pinch" of thumb and forefinger), to the way he faces the cameras. He has become a mini-Trump. This all bears a striking resemblance to the intense world of authoritarianism. When leaders have a personality cult, they don't just set policies, but also model certain ideals of masculine power and performance that their followers widely imitate. https://www.cnn.com/2021/10/25/opinions/desantis-trump-ben-ghiat/index.html
Overall, what Trump had to say differed little from what other CPAC speakers with presidential ambitions offered up across the multiday conference. Speaking on Thursday, Florida governor Ron DeSantis, who has been pegged as a likely front-runner in the event of a Trump-less field in 2024, stuck exclusively to similar themes. Even when the first-term governor described his state as a “citadel of freedom” for anyone “chafing under authoritarian rule around the world,” the regimes he condemned were Australia and Canada over their COVID policies. Throughout his speech, DeSantis emphasized his opposition to what he called “Faucism,” as well as wokeness, which he described as the “new religion of the left.” https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2022/02/trump-and-cpac-had-a-different-war-on-their-minds.html

На встрече в Хельсинки-2018 в руках у Путина список тем для обсуждения:
1. Вмешательство в кавычках (очевидно, в американские выборы).
2. Украина.
3. Сирия.
Первые два пункта отмечены плюсиками.
