Recently my Uber driver was a technology volunteer at a senior center. We talked about how to explain the economics of cloud computing to people over 65. He came up with a brilliant analogy: banking. Our money is no longer physical and we don't store it under mattresses. Rather, all our money is already in the cloud and computing just follows the money.

Still cannot understand the fact that people over 65 are supposed to be some kind of idiots.

Otherwise, sure, a good analogy.

They are not idiots - just far removed from business and technology. I feel fairly dumb when biologists are trying to explain to me, e.g. various RNA-protein interactions. Or try to explain philosophy of Immanuel Kant to your random coworker.

I wish to be far removed.. dream about it... but in a few years I will be over 65, and it does not seem I would be able to get far enough even then:))

You'll be surprised how deeply technology reaches into peoples lives well beyond the age of retirement. I can see how my parents have to learn new kinds of interactions with their bank, pharmacy, doctor, insurance, etc. "Fate leads the willing and drags along the reluctant."

Мне хорошо, я всегда могу сбросить эту нудоту на какого-нибудь своего ребёнка, а теперь уже и на старшего внука и использовать technology только для собственного удовольствия.:)

В действительности, мне не кажутся изменения настолько стремительными, что я не успеваю за ними следовать. Правда, я не стараюсь охватить все новинки, но если что-то становится общеупотребительным, тогда я присоединяюсь.
