If another country bombed us, only a tiny fringe of Americans would say that we should relax about it because we’ve bombed other countries too. Most people would ignore that line of argument, and they’d be right.

The problem with this line of reasoning is that a significant portion the electorate doesn't perceive "bombing" of DNC as "bombing us." Would it be different if Russian agents assassinated/poisoned Hillary Clinton right before the elections? What kind of minimal crime by a foreign government against an opposing party candidate would make Americans think as "us"?
