A thought experiment

The problem with this line of reasoning is that a significant portion the electorate doesn't perceive "bombing" of DNC as "bombing us." Would it be different if Russian agents assassinated/poisoned Hillary Clinton right before the elections? What kind of minimal crime by a foreign government against an opposing party candidate would make Americans think as "us"?
