BEIJING (BLOOMBERG) - China is setting up its first immigration office, according to people with knowledge of the plans, as President Xi Jinping seeks overseas talent to help drive the transition of an economy led by consumer spending and innovation.

While some big Chinese cities have seen a surge in foreigners in recent years, they still lag their global peers. About 0.5 per cent of Beijing's population is foreign born, compared with at least one-third in London, New York, Sydney and Toronto
