A lot of people who emigrated from the USSR/Russia but still speak the language are having trouble giving up on the country. They are still concerned about what Russians think about freedom of speech or how Russians feel about Putin, the West, etc. Talking to them is like talking to an owner of a recently deceased pet — they refuse to accept the fact that their dog or cat or horse is no longer alive. As if asleep, they whisper the pet's name, thinking that the corpse would answer the call. It won't.

Russian society is collectively dead. It has no soul, no consciousness, no senses, no agency. It's a Putin's Golem and we should treat it as such, working together to prevent further damage from its destructive moves. Obviously, we don't know how to kill this dangerous zombie, but we don't know how to make it back into a living caring creature either. In the meantime, we must learn how to protect ourselves and the rest of the world from this 150–million-strong soulless monster. God help us all.
