Сегодня по радио слушал интервью с журналистом, который провел в плену у сомалийских пиратов почти 3 года. Он сказал важную вещь: нужно уметь жить без надежды. И объяснил, что по мысли экзистенциалистов (Киркегард и Сартр), из двух типов существования — надежда и отчаяние (hope and despair) — мы более-менее умеем только первый, хотя второй - это единственное, что работает в безнадежной ситуации и позволяет прожить день.

Надо подумать. Вполне может быть, что знаменитое "оставь надежду" нужно трактовать как совет о выживании в аду. Например, если попал туда по ошибке или при жизни, как Шаламов.
