Digging ditches
Jan. 25th, 2017 10:51 amI'm amazed at how skillfully Trump sold conservatives on the idea of a massive government stimulus program by calling it The Great Border Wall. Essentially, it's a Keynesian policy to dig useless ditches in order to spend government money on low-skilled employment. Unlike useful infrastructure work that requires time-consuming and expensive engineering efforts, the wall is shovel-ready because its value is mostly symbolic, rather than economic. Brilliant!
Now we need to think about how to deal with inflation that this policy entails. Employment levels are already relatively high; therefore, hiring legal construction workers will be expensive.
