An Indian newspaper reports on how Chinese newspapers cover American newspapers:
People who live under an authoritarian regime have a hard time imagining that newspapers can arrive at the same conclusion independently.
NEW DELHI: The US mainstream media have "totally discarded" their "so-called objectivity and fairness" in supporting Hillary Clinton and "disparaging" Donald Trump, China's state media alleged on Sunday.
In an editorial, the Global Times criticized the "ugly unity" of the US mainstream media, which it said had "heavily hyped up Trump's insulting comments against women, while only scratching the surface of Clinton's e-mail scandals." Citing "statistics from the US," it also said that 30 out of the top 100 US dailies backed Clinton, while none were on Trump's side.
People who live under an authoritarian regime have a hard time imagining that newspapers can arrive at the same conclusion independently.

John R. Searle mentioned once that Charles Darwin not only provided a new explanation for biological change, but also created a new form of explanation. I don't remember the exact quote, but Searle emphasized the 2-level structure of the form:
- Level 1: physical/chemical causal processes inside the organism, i.e. the internal function that has to work for the organism to survive;
- Level 2: processes outside of the organism, i.e. external selection, to select for the function.
He used the example of a sunflower that both has an internal machinery for turning its head toward the sun, and an environment where sun-capturing plants have an advantage.
I have a hunch that a new form of explanation can be captured by a pullback diagram.

WSJ editorial on Trump's campaign

Путин Гитлер узнает, что Трамп проиграл выборы.
But Republicans didn’t urge Mr. Trump to spend three weeks attacking Judge Gonzalo Curiel, the Khan family and Alicia Machado. They didn’t talk trash about women with Billy Bush, and they didn’t tell Mr. Trump to make the election about character rather than issues. They also didn’t tell him to disdain fundraising and organizing until the final four months.
GOP leaders bent over backward to respect the voters who nominated Mr. Trump by trying to agree on a common agenda. Mr. Ryan and most other Republicans endorsed him. If they now have to distance themselves from the top of the ticket for reasons of political self-preservation or conscience, the Trump campaign has brought them there.
