The so-called case of data overfitting

Once, two men who had a major dispute decided to seek a resolution from a village rabbi. The older man went to the rabbi first and carefully outlined his side of the argument. The rabbi listened intently and finally said, “You are right.” The man went away satisfied. Later in the day, the other party to the dispute arrived and told the rabbi his side of the story. The rabbi again listened carefully, was impressed with the arguments, and replied after some thought, “You are right.” Later, the rabbi’s wife, who had overheard the rabbi’s conversations with both men, said to him, “Rabbi, you told both men that they were right. How can this be?” To which the rabbi replied, “And you are right too!”
Data overfitting can be a rational strategy when being wrong is a low-cost option, while missing an opportunity is a high-cost one.

Какие все-таки у древних греков боги были поганые. Если им так хотелось друг с другом бороться за статус на Олимпе, выяснял бы отношения между собой и не втягивали бы в свои дела людей, убивая их сотнями и тысячами. Понятно, что сами греки оправдывали свои подлости волею богов, но зачем иметь таких богов?

Sep. 29th, 2016 09:34 pmЯ не играю в такие игры. Но желаю победы Трампу. Он построит стену и займется нелегальными эмигрантами, как положено. Снизит налоги и оживит экономику. Ликвидирует торговый дефицит. Выйдет из ущербных торговых договоров или исправит их. Лишит Иран возможности получить ядерное оружие, или по крайней мере не будет мешать Израилю это сделать. Надеюсь также, что он посадит коррупционеров. Да и на то, легальным ли образом стал Обама президентом, он тоже, я думаю, посмотрит. Да, исламом он тоже займется. Вот это все и будет наш общий выигрыш.
