So far, three questions seem to be relevant to the evolution of money:

1. What are the key patterns in the structure of money, as a control signal within a goods/services flow system? ( coins, bills, stocks(?), electronic, etc. )
2. What are the key patterns in creation and use of large amounts of money, e.g. markets, banks, insurance, etc?
3. What are the key patterns that determine the pace of money evolution, e.g. government actions, central bank policies, international trade, etc.?

totalitarian ( fixed enforced rules) -> chaotic  -> oligarchic  ( a limited number competing rules selectively enforced) -> sovereign ( restoration of the government's monopoly on rule definition and enforcement).

it all boils down to the mechanism of forming an elite that defines the scope of people's influence on the elite's actions.
