In ancient Greek "βολος" — throwing nets (when fishing)
Dictionaries claim that "διάβολος" is translated as "slandering."
When "διά" is used in the sense of divide, it "δι-αιρέω": 1) separate, disassemble, divide, divide 2)... 3) ... 4) ... 5) ...

It is not clear where the author took such an etymology.
