Trench fever

Rats made the spread of lice-borne diseases such as trench fever even easier when compared to other environments. Many soldiers were fearful of rats more so than other horrors found in the trenches.

In 1921, microbiologist Sir David Bruce reported that over one million Allied soldiers were infected by trench fever throughout the war.[42] Even after the Great War had ended, disabled veterans in Britain attributed their decreasing quality of life to trench fever they had sustained during wartime.

The current political life in the US looks somewhat similar to WWI Trench Warfare: lots of individual action, artillery fire, heroism, death, disease, all of which doesn't change the overall position of the warring sides. Under the circumstances, a rational person should maintain good brain hygiene, see the facts as they are and watch out for signs of trench fever, typically spread by Fox News mental lice, aka trolls.

upd: Just in case, Robert Kagan's piece (9/24/2019) is probably the best explanation why impeachment is required for the sanity of our political system.
