(no subject)

A couple of days ago I talked to a well-educated, well-travelled young Russian woman, a daughter of a successful businessman. She complained to me about American sanctions and said that because of the sanctions she couldn't buy parmesan cheese in Moscow. I said it was impossible because America doesn't export cheese to Russia. She replied that under American pressure the EU imposed their own sanctions, etc.

Maybe I shouldn't generalize, but given the recent election results, it seems like the new generation of successful Russians believes the propaganda even when the claims are absurd and can be easily disproved.

They became successful with this system, so they choose to believe. It's emotional, not rational.
