Putin is probably hoping to outlast every hostile western leader. He almost got away with Trump.

He almost got away with doping in Sochi. If you wait long enough, people like that eventually overplay their hand and destroy themselves.

Well, he got away with the wars in Georgia and Syria. The war in Ukraine cost thousands of lives and displaced hundreds of thousands of people. We can hope that he will destroy himself somehow, but it's just a hope.
