Engineering vs Math

I've been thinking about this.

It looks like risk profiles of the two human activities are quite different. There's very little redundancy in [complex] math proofs/procedures, while many engineering systems are explicitly designed to be redundant. Failures in math are unforgiving, while in engineering they are broadly expected and maintenance/recovery measures are often built in.
