Prayer is to meditation as applied science is to fundamental. On a somewhat related note, we can consider Protestantism as an equalizer, i.e. outcome is determined by one's faith, rather than his/her material contributions to the Church. Here, we can draw a parallel with an empowering technology, which also equalizes, e.g. people's physical abilities. etc. (see an earlier post on the subject). Initially, Christianity also worked as an equalizer, "There's no Jew nor Gentile." Going deeper, monotheism equalized adherence to various pagan cults.
