Pre-code movies

There was a short period in the history of American cinema when "talkies" were neither censored nor rated. It lasted about 5 years, approximately from 1929 to 1934. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pre-Code_Hollywood
Because most people, especially recent immigrants and foreigners, know post-war America of the 1950s through Hollywood, they get an impression of special "cleanliness", civility and modesty of the era. These impressions are false; they are due to censorship, not social harmony.
