Недавно, еще до изменений с ЖЖ, меня начал интересовать вопрос: чем терпение русского народа отличается от терпения британского народа. Вопрос вырос из истории второй мировой войны, где оба народа показали выдержку в довольно суровых условиях. В обоих случаях, у них был признанный лидер — Сталин и Черчиль соотвественно.

После окончания войны Сталин произнес знаменитый тост про терпение русского народа, закрутил гулаговские гайки и остался диктатором до самой смерти. В то же время, британцы, ценя необыкновенно высоко личную роль Черчилля в победе над Германией, прокатили его партию на выборах. Получается, что оба народа были необыкновенно терпеливы во время войны, а после нее русским пришлось терпеть и дальше. Кажется очевидным, что терпение русских было вынужденным, продиктованным невозможностью противостоять сталинскому режиму. Но так ли это? Можно ли объяснить разницу между народами в запасе терпения исключительно степенью политической свободы в обществе?

Еще можно сравнить современное терпение русского и британского народов по отношению к цензуре в интернете. В чем разница? Как можно было бы измерить propensity for patience в обоих случаях?

И уж совсем вопрос "по касательной": есть ли в британской литературе хоть что-то похожее на тургеневское "Муму"? Почему Герасим терпел от барыни все до тех пор, пока ему не пришлось утопить любимую собаку?

I'd never thought that I'd see conversations between bewildered fanatics in the US this close. Throughout Trump presidency I felt that calling these people трамповатa was a bit rude; that they were just confused, mostly harmless middle-aged men who happen to be mentally stuck in the Soviet/anti-soviet dichotomy of their youth. Maybe it made them feel younger and more at home with their life skills. But guess what? They are true трамповата. They live in the US, but mentally they are working remotely from the USSR, a country and society that exist only in their memories. Bergson was right. Wow.

Еще понял одну из причин, почему определенные взрослые люди без чувства юмора постоянно придумывают и делятся с окружающими собственными несмешными шутками. Тут получается по Дарвину: естественная склонность человека к юмору не отбирается в среде общения. В такой среде можно шутить, как угодно (никак, плохо, хорошо), но у шуток нет обратной связи, поэтому они, например, у мужчин, застревают на уровне туповатого "армейского" или "студенческого" юмора.

I've long suspected that Crazy and Stupid perceptions of the Other (applies to historical times, mindsets, etc.) form an intrinsically connected pair. In Category Theory they can be modeled as adjoints with specific meanings; that is, Stupid would be Forgetful, while Crazy would be Free.
